Benefits of Day Care for Young Children

Daycare is more than just a facility to leave your children while you work. They are wonderful places where children can socialize with others of their age group and sometimes with those older and younger. It helps with concepts like sharing and teamwork. Here are some things you might think about.

Regular Schedule – Studies have shown that children do better in a structured environment. Day care in Allen Tx provides regular times for eating, playing, and napping. There are also activities based on age and abilities.

Academics – Day care gives children an advantage in reading and math skills. They seem to develop better cognitive and language skills which extend through their educational phase. A study shows that these children are also more likely to attend college and have more years of total education than peer groups. As adults they are also more likely to find and keep employed during their lifetimes as compared to their peers.

Behavior – Through interaction with the other children and the adult supervision, children develop better behaviors. Over time they have been found to experience fewer peer-related issues. These traits have seemed to extend into elementary school and even beyond. They learn sharing and compromise which will provide them skills in sports and in business.

Health – No one willingly wants to expose their children to any illness. However, it is inevitable that children in day care facilities will develop colds. However, it is actually similar to vaccines where the exposure to these common ailments will increase their immune system and help them be healthier as they grow into adulthood. Studies also reveal that these children are less likely to lose school days to illness than those kids who were not enrolled in day care.

Socializing – Through daily activities children will make friends and have arguments; normal behavior. They develop communication skills and adapt to different social situations. There was a study that indicated that children who had been placed in day care were better able to adjust communication skills probably associated with their exposure to a greater variety of conversations and interactions.

Transition to School Environment – Children who spend early years in day care and then move into elementary education in a traditional environment seem to adjust better than children who were not in day care. This is probably due to the structured environment they are used to as well as exposure to many other children.

Parental Involvement – Stereotypically it seems that parents placing their children in day care shows less interest in their children's activities. However, as time progresses these parents' participation in communicating with teachers, attending open houses, and making friends with other parents is greater in those parents whose children attended day care facilities.

So, in the long run, daycare is a great benefit to children, not just single parents or those where both parents work full time or even full-time stay-at-home parents. It allows children to develop successfully through their formative years and to carry those skills through the educational process and into adulthood.
