People of Takhatgarh village in the provincial Taluka of Sabarkantha have adopted the water meter (Water meter) system. The Central Government has taken notes of this. And declared Takhatgarh gram panchayat as the best panchayat for the water award according to the, latest Gujarat weekly news.


The people of Takhatgarh village in Sabarkantha have carried out both cleanliness and water rescue works by adopting the water meter system. Earlier, the streets and main roads of the village were as dirty as other villages and cities. On the other hand, water problems remained the same. But the villagers decided to make the water frugal. So that people wastewater on the roads and use the water economically completely.


At present 96% of the meters has been installed in the village. A total of Rs. 46 lakhs has been spent. Out of which Rs. 10 lakh has been spent by the villagers and Rs. 36 lakh by the government. The villagers are charged Rs. 1 per thousand liters. The villagers have also benefited greatly due to the water meters installed in the village. Villagers are admitting that installing meters has saved people huge savings in saving water as well as electricity bills.

The people of Takhatgarh village have understood the value of water. This has also been understood by the central government. Therefore the 'Jal Puraskar' has been given to the Takhtgarh gram panchayat by the central government.

What do the villagers say?


Earlier water was found to be much spilled on the roads, but now it is a relief to control the use of water due to metering practice, says village housewife Arunaben Patel on the change in water consumption. People now use water in a very frugal manner as compared to earlier. So gram jar Chandrakantbhai Patel says, we get water on a basis of Rs. 1,000 per liters.
