

ZAP Architecture has won a ‘green award’ in an international ideas contest for high-quality solutions to London’s housing crisis
The competition – run by architectural contest organisers Bee Breeders in partnership with the Bartlett School of Architecture and Archhive Books – sought innovative proposals for a new affordable housing scheme in the UK capital or to extend the city’s iconic Alexandra Road, Balfron Tower or Robin Hood Gardens developments.ZAP Architecture – founded in 2012 – won the $500 award in the eco category for its ‘garage-band housing’ proposal to create new off-site constructed modular homes above existing under-used lock-ups in Croydon, south London. The overall winner was Elisabeth Loehr from the Berlin University of the Arts.
ZAP co-founder Pol Gallagher said: ‘I’m delighted to have our “garage-band housing” project awarded the green prize in this international competition to re-imagine London housing opportunities.
