These are generally used in situations where the number of rebars is very less and it can be done mechanically with bolts only which is how it gets its name as Mechanically Bolted Coupler or MBT Coupler. Using MBT Coupler will provide a cost-effective method of joining TMT bars, it is also used in where reinforcement bar is already in place and there is insufficient space for hydraulic swaging press.
