This is the original celebration of International Women's Day, which spread around the world by 1911. In 1975, the date of March 8 was officially designated International Women's Day by the United Nations. The hardships of working-class women in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are the inspiration for International Women's Day. It was decided in 1910 by a group of 100 women from 17 different nations to create International Women's Day. The hymn "Bread and Flowers," which has since become linked with International Women's Day, was written about these women because of their bravery.
