Footgolf, the good plan of the summer

In Neuried, Germany, near Offenburg and the border, an unusual activity attracts many players: footgolf. The sport is played according to the same rules as golf, but is played with a soccer ball. So on foot.

“I discovered this discipline on vacation in the Allgäu, explains Manuel Armbruster, co-owner of the site. With a friend, we found it so great that we set up our Soccerpark footgolf two years later. What I like is that anyone can play, regardless of their level of football.

A sports science graduate, Manuel Armbruster has invested more than €100,000 in this 18-hole course offered to visitors.

This is similar to that of a real golf course: lawn mowed flush, various obstacles (rocks, trees, sand holes), and of course the famous flag which marks the goal to be reached. It's about putting the ball in the hole with as few strokes as possible. Precision, concentration and above all pleasure are the watchwords of footgolf.

There are about fifty structures like this in France, including several in Alsace and about fifteen in Germany. A World Cup even took place in December 2018, in Marrakech (Morocco).

"Weekdays are pretty quiet, but weekends are crowded," admits Manuel. If he refuses to reveal how many visitors come each year to enjoy his park, he says he is “very satisfied” with attendance after four years of operation. "The most important thing is that people have fun," he concludes.
