What are the various types of DMARC regulations?

There are three different types of Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) policies that you can include in your DMARC record. The basic DMARC policy only allows all reporting emails to be sent to the email address specified in the from field of your email messages, including SPF and DKIM validation information. The quarantine policy only flags emails as suspicious or fails them entirely - it does not send any of the reports to the email address specified in the from field of your email messages.

The reject policy blocks all email with DKIM or SPF failures from being delivered to any inbox, including your own. There are three regulations that DMARC can use to decide how to treat message from this domain: policy enforcement, DMARC enforcement policy reporting and policy modification section. The choice for each of these regulations is based on the type of email being sent.

This article explains how each set works in DMARC. DMARC policies are created to protect your reputation. These policies tell mailbox providers how to handle email from your domain if it fails authentication. The policies you choose dictate what happens next, and how email is routed in these situations.

Here are the three different policies and what they mean:

p=none: This policy, which is referred to as monitor, means that the mailbox provider won't take any actions with your emails that fail DMARC.

p=quarantine: This policy means that you want to have all emails that fail DMARC to be treated by mailbox providers as suspicious. Quarantining an email can mean that the email is delivered into an area outside of the inbox, such as the spam or junk folder.

p=reject: This policy indicates you want mailbox providers to reject all emails that fail DMARC
