Getting New Window System Installed? Use These 5 Tips To Prepare In Advance

WIndows in Sarah’s new home were not energy efficient neither were aesthetically sound. So she purchased a new window system to make up for the loss. After many changes, she finally managed to get an appointment for installation.

Upon arrival, the installation team had to wait for an hour, because Sarah had to make space inside and outside the windows for the team to work. The whole house got layered with dust and debris which took another 2 days for Sarah to clean up and many other things.

The day of installation turned out to be a great mishap for both Sarah and the installation team.

Here, we have composed a list of 5 things that you as a client can do to prepare for a successful window replacement.

  • Clean the area outside the window: It is necessary for the workers to be able to work their way around the window freely in order to complete the replacement in a proper manner. Therefore, remove any planters, pots, or lawn furniture that are placed just outside the window. Cut down any shrubs or tree branches that can become an obstacle.
  • Clean the area inside the window: Similarly, the area around the window inside the house must also be decluttered until the installation is complete. Any desks, chairs, or plants must be kept away to reduce any material damage.
  • Remove window coverings: Before you replace the timber windows with aluminium ones, make sure you remove all the curtains, blinds or drapes that adorn your previous window. This will provide easy access to the workers to the surrounding walls of the windows. Also, it is advisable to remove any paintings or decorative wall hangings from the walls in the vicinity of the work area.
  • Protect your floor, belonging and home: Protect your precious carpets and rugs near the window from dust by covering the floor with a plastic sheet, a tarp or a canvas drop cloth. This step will also keep the hardwood floor from getting scratched and scuffed too.

Also, remove any dust-sensitive items like electronic gadgets or appliances placed near the vicinity of the changing windows or at least cover them securely to keep dust from entering them.

Finally, the window replacement work generates a lot of debris and dust in the process. So make sure you cover the area of the house around the windows with floor-to-ceiling plastic sheets or drop cloth. Also, to avoid accidents, keep your pets and children away from the work site as installers use heavy tools for their work.

  • Make your home accessible: This point is applicable when you are not going to be present in your house on the installation day. Make arrangements so that the installation crew is not locked out of the house. And don’t forget to turn off any security alarms or window sensors.

Bottomline

Window manufacturers say that as a responsible client if you prepare in advance for the installation day by following these tips, you can ensure a smooth and easy installation experience for you and the crew members.
