I am dreaming of a nice afternoon tea with the my regular fellowship group. Having attended a recent tea party where a close gal showed off her new British Tea Set, I am now all in love with the good looking tea cup set. They certainly make the tea seem more delightful.
As a result of this desire, I went out and purchase this Pukka Home Tea Set after evaluating a few choices. Now here is the dilemma : I have sent out invite for an afternoon tea gathering. What should be on the table with my dreamy Pukka set ?
This is my initial food layout to entertain my kakis.
Arrival Drinks
I plan to offer a variety of teas, like Earl Grey, chai, peppermint, camomile, fruit and English Breakfast. Iced tea for the children is also on the menu since the weather is warmer . I am sure that adding a touch of fizz will get the kids excited.
The spread
There aren't any rules when it comes to the food, but a standard afternoon tea comprises a tier of sandwiches, a tier of cakes and one of scones or teacakes. However, you could also throw in pastries, petits fours or biscuits.
Sandwiches
- Egg & cress club sandwich
- Carrot & raisin sandwiches
- Salmon club sandwich
- Best ever crab sandwiches
- Smoked salmon & avocado open sandwich on rye bread
I am thinking of scones too. They are best eaten on the day and don't take long to prepare. To reduce the workload on the day, I plan to freeze a batch of scones a day before. This will allow me to defrost them in a low oven on the day of afternoon tea and have them served warm with lashings of cream and jam. This would be yummy !
Scones
- Classic scones with jam & clotted cream
- Fruit scones
- Cherry scones
Jams
- Strawberry jam
- Raspberry jam
- Blackcurrant jam
Pâtisserie
The mere mention of Parisian-standard pastry is enough to create excitement for the party. These are my selections for pick up at my favorite bakery.
- Raspberry millefeuilles
- Mini eclairs
- Chinon apple tarts
- Salted caramel & popcorn crumble choux buns
What do you think of the afternoon tea menu ? Do you think I would be able to get everything ready for the party ?
