Everything You Should Know About Tung oil

Tung oil, also known as China wood oil, is made from the seeds of tung trees, which are native to China and other Asian countries. Tung oil is a drying and mattifying agent that is used on wood and metal surfaces such as floors, furniture, and musical instruments. On porous surfaces such as wood, it forms a waterproof and protective finish layer.

Tung oil is completely food safe. It's made from tung nuts. It can be used on a variety of kitchen utensils, including cutting boards, butcher blocks, countertops, bowls, baskets, and many others. Once the Tung oil has been applied, keep it for at least 30 days until it has fully cured. Otherwise, the chemical components of tun oil can leak from its surface and cause a slew of problems.

If you use pores open-grained wood as a cutting board, you've probably noticed that the moisture isn't trapped inside the wood. These woods are ideal for the growth of bacteria and can cause food allergies if used for an extended period of time. Tung oil, on the other hand, acts as a grain filler, preventing water from entering the wood and inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi. This will render the wood food safe to eat. Pure tung oil contains no volatile compounds that are harmful to meat and vegetables. Tung oil is the best natural finishing oil, providing the most protection for your food and your health.

Tung oil application is extremely simple. It easily and effectively produces an easily maintained and long-lasting finish. For best results, apply Tung oil with a paintbrush or cloth in the direction of the wood grain. This will make it much easier for the wood to absorb the oil. Tung oil can be applied by even inexperienced woodworkers. For best results, apply at least 6 coats of Tung oil. Allow the wood to dry for at least 6 hours after each coat of Tung oil is applied. When you're satisfied that the surface is smooth and dry, apply the next coat of stain and repeat the drying process.
