Jim McFarland Joliet

Jim McFarland Joliet, an active member of his community, recently spoke at an event, where he discussed his involvement in local causes and the importance of giving back to those around you. Jim McFarland Joliet grew up on the north side of Joliet and has lived there ever since. His parents were active in helping their community by giving money, food, and time to numerous projects around town – this laid the groundwork for Jim McFarland Joliet’s current passion for social work and community involvement.

Jim McFarland Joliet said that one of his favorite things about being an active community member was the feeling of engagement with others in his community. He knew that he was making a difference by contributing to his community, and he loved how that felt.

He’s been heavily involved in social works for humanity, animals, and disaster relief in his area, serving on the Boards of the Forest Park Community Center and helping to coordinate their annual Halloween block party which brings hundreds of kids from all over Chicago to attend Halloween festivities.

The Importance of Community Involvement

Jim McFarland Joliet believes that being involved in community matters is very important for social and economic growth. Being a part of a community gives individuals feelings of belonging. People who feel like they belong to something larger than themselves and/or their families feel more fulfilled, happier, and less likely to commit crimes. As Jim says: How can you commit crimes against others when you know that there are people you love, who care about you, and who depend on you?

When you're engaged with your community, it's harder to do wrong by it or by anyone else. It's also easier to help others when you're actively engaged in your own life. And so much of what we need as humans, we don't get from the money we get from other people. We need friends and family; we need human connection; we need support; we need encouragement; we need motivation; we need someone to talk us down off a ledge if necessary.
