Laboratory Ovens of Various Types and Configurations

Laboratory ovens have a wide range of applications, particularly in thermal processing applications such as laboratory work, component and stability testing, glassware drying and sterilisation. A laboratory oven is a low-temperature thermal processing unit that operates at or below 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. It also lacks refractory insulation.

Laboratory ovens are also used for common industrial processes and other implementations such as ageing, baking, curing, pre-heating, burn-off, drying, melting, hot press, quenching, sintering, soldering, sterilising, and so on.

The temperature range is the most important specification for a laboratory oven. The temperature range is the highest temperature at which the laboratory oven can operate while maintaining its performance rating. The volume of the interior space of the unit when heated is another standard to consider. Some other significant consideration when determining specific oven types is pressure range.

These products are available in a variety of configurations, including the cabinet, conveyor, muffle, walk in oven, and vertical. A cabinet oven, also known as a bench oven, is a small piece of equipment that is mounted on integral stands. Cabinet ovens are commonly used to process large quantities of products in a single batch.

The vertical configuration of the muffle oven saves space. Vertical configurations typically require more height clearance than horizontal configurations. However, the vertical configuration does not imply airflow direction. A walk in oven, also known as a truck-in oven, is a larger batch of equipment that typically has two doors as well as integral shelves and carts. A walk in oven is used to process larger quantities of product in a single batch.
