Meet a member UCO's Faculty for the BAT Program

Michelle Estes serves as adjunct faculty in the BAT associate program. In 2019, she joined the University.

Michelle has the opportunity to get to know many of the students as she is one of the BAT instructors.

Diverse backgrounds and ages of students

Michelle says that the BAT program is not for everyone. Michelle states that "our students are all of different ages and have varied backgrounds." Michelle says that some students enroll in the program immediately after graduating high school. Others served in the military. And others are working on their degrees while they have jobs.

UCO students are from all parts of the USA, with a special focus on the East Coast and Ohio. Michelle states that the commonality of all UCO students is their desire to obtain a high-quality online education at a respected university as well as an interest in IT.

UCO Difference: A Leader in Online Education

Michelle, not surprisingly, loves the online BAT program. She also hears from students how much they enjoy it. Michelle says that students often tell her how they can't do an associate's degree online.

Students have the option to choose when they want to enroll in the program -- summer, fall or spring -- and can complete their degree within two years if studying full-time. Part-time students are welcome at UCO. If you want to continue your studies, you can transfer your associate degree credits into a bachelor's program. UCO's career service team is available to assist students with finding the ideal job.

The associate degree program's courses will be taught by faculty who have direct IT industry experience. The BAT courses will really enhance the skills of our students. Michelle shared two classes from their capstone classes Project Management Applications, and Fundamentals in Data Visualization. Michelle says, "Our project management course assists students in developing skills that are highly sought-after by employers." The data visualization course focuses primarily on the presentation of data.

Paradigm Education Solutions offers the Cirrus learning platform, which students of BAT enjoy. Students can access their textbooks, coursework and other materials on almost any device because the environment is cloud-based. They can move easily between a laptop and other devices like a Chromebook or Mac. They also get to learn the various applications used in every office. These include Microsoft Office 365, the Microsoft Office 365 suite, and many collaboration platforms that allow them to share files, video conferencing, or online messaging with students. Michelle describes it as a win-win situation. UCO helps students to increase their knowledge of how these programs are applied in the workplace.
