Switch Toys For Special Needs for Adaptive Tech Solutions

avatar
Adaptive Tech Solutions

Our switch adapted toys are adapted to allow individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn as independently as possible. With the use of a switch, a person with disabilities can be an active participant in fun, meaningful accessible activities. Our adapted toys and switches are interchangeable and compatible with most toys and switches sold by other companies. Our goal is to provide affordable switch adapted toys that teach social skills, cause & effect, language, and sensory awareness through playing and interacting with the environment.

Our therapist selected switch adapted toys to allow individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn as independently as possible.

Bite Switch

The Bite Switch allows the user to hold the switch in their mouth and gently bite with only the front teeth. Gentle pressure in the red bite area will activate the switch. This is not to be bitten with the canine or molars. Actuation pressure is 10 lbs, so this switch may not be the best choice for individuals that have conditions where fatigue or weakness is present. Please consult with a trained professional in these situations. This switch is activated when bitten, and activation stops when pressure is released. Has a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) plug on a 3' cord to use with any of our switch adapted products. This product is durable and is expected to endure 4000 bite activations. If being used with multiple users, surface sanitize with alcohol or similar disinfectant.

Can be mounted on the microphone stem of a headset, or attached with zip ties and shrink tube to flexible mounts, or you can use 3 straightened lengths of clothes hanger wire (or similar) to curve around the neck and upwards towards the mouth. Cover the wires with electrical tape or shrink tubing and attach the switch with zip ties.

Tongue Switch

The Tongue Switch allows the user to hold the switch in their mouth between their teeth and push the button with their tongue. Actuation pressure is 10oz (think about the pressure to push bubble gum onto the back of your teeth to blow a bubble). This switch is activated when button is depressed and activation stops when button is released. Has a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) plug on a 3' cord to use with any of our switch adapted products. If being used with multiple users, surface sanitize with alcohol or similar disinfectant.

Specs Switch

The Specs Switch (also sometimes called a Buddy Button) is a compact wired switch featuring a 1.4-in/3.5-cm activation surface that provides an auditory click and tactile feedback. Requires 3.5-oz/100-g of force to activate. 24-inch strap included allows switch to be mounted to the hand, thumb, or other body parts. Available in a variety of colors. Flange has mounting holes.

Flexible Switch

The Flexible Switch is a bendable, pressure-activated switch requiring the slightest touch (less than two ounces) whether the touch comes from directly above or at a shallow angle. The Flexible Switch has a standard 3.5mm plug for use with communication aids or battery-operated devices with a standard jack. These have an adhesive backing that is pretty permanent. So, if you want to re-position them, consider not peeling off the backing and instead using a temporary adhesive. Each Flexible Switch Set includes one 2 x 4 inch switch and one 3 x 5 inch switch.

Please keep in mind:

  • The minimum bending radius of the Flexible Switch is 1.5”.
  • The Flexible Switch cannot be trimmed or cut in any way.
  • The Flexible Switch is not designed to be used with adapted toys with motors or other high-current devices.
