Your Handy Kitchen Gadget Packing Guide

Read about how to pack your kitchen gadgets to ensure they remain safe and secure during a renovation or move.

Packing the home for a move can be challenging, but no room brings more packing challenges than the kitchen. So many items there are expensive, delicate and highly unlikely to have the original box. So how do you ensure they remain safe and secure during a move or renovation?

To help you get started, here's your handy kitchen gadget packing guide:

Why Pack Kitchen Gadgets At All?

Obviously you can just put gadgets in the moving van and take them to the cheapest self storage unit you can find or straight to your new home. The problem with doing that is that they are so much more likely to be damaged in transit. They are open to dust, physical force, debris, scratching and even loss. Packing properly prevents these risks and although time consuming, you'll save time and money by having your gadgets safe and sound at the end of your move or renovation.

How To Pack Your Kitchen Gadgets

Use The Original Packaging

If you do happen to have the original packaging for the gadget then it makes sense to use that packaging again to store the item. Do check the box for damage though before using it, incase it is no longer in good condition. Even if the box is in good condition, reinforce it with tape and packing materials for extra reassurance your item is safe.

Pack Any Gaps

If you have been forced to use alternative boxes to store your gadgets, the most important thing is to pack any gaps. So if the box is bigger than the gadget, the item isn't knocking around inside the box in transit. You can use paper, bags or even clean clothes to do this.

Take Out The Batteries

Taking out the batteries of the gadget is important because the batteries might leak or corrode in different temperatures. Even if you have chosen climate controlled self storage in London (or your local city or town) it still make sense to remove the batteries to be extra safe.

Keep Everything Together

Any loose parts of the gadget should be kept with the gadget so the parts don't get lost. If you can, additional labelling on the different parts after you have packaged them will be useful when it comes to unpacking.

Keep It Clean

Kitchen gadgets can become grubby over time as we wipe and go, but we don't necessarily clean them properly after we buy them. This is the perfect time to clean them properly so that they are super-fresh when you unpack them again. In addition, debris can rust or damage the item whilst it is in storage so it is important to clean it well and especially ensure it is dry.

Hopefully with the tips above you feel able to pack your kitchen gadgets with a bit more ease. In all cases, extra packaging and labelling never hurts, so be overly cautious if you need to be, it will only make your items more secure. With the right approach to packing, you will unpack your gadgets in the same condition you left them in after your renovation or house move.
