Most auger flighting suppliers offer two main types of auger flighting: sectional flighting and helicoid flighting. 


The difference between sectional and helicoid auger flighting has to do with how they are manufactured. Sectional flighting is produced by stamping the base material (likely carbon, stainless steel, or an alloy of some sort) into donut shapes, which are then pressed into individual helices. These individual helices are then welded together into one continuous helix to form an auger. 


Helicoid auger flighting is formed from a single piece of material rather than several individual components. The helicoid flighting production process involves using a rolling machine to turn one piece of metal into a continuous helix. 


Sectional flighting offers more leeway for design variation, and allows for greater material thickness and variety. Auger flighting suppliers may recommend sectional flighting for applications that require a high degree of specificity. 


Helicoid auger flighting offers less variation than sectional flighting, but it is easier, faster, and cheaper to produce. As such, auger flighting suppliers may recommend helicoid flighting for more basic or generic applications. 


Augers made from both helicoid flighting and sectional flighting can be of excellent quality, and are often used for applications in a vast range of industries, including but not limited to construction, manufacturing, food processing, and agriculture.
