How to Create PPT Templates

Today we're going to look at a useful PowerPoint tool that can save you and your colleague’s time. You may already know this, but over 70% of ppt users don't, and if you're not one of them, you're about to learn something very important.

Whether you're familiar with templates or new to them, we'll teach you everything you need to know and walk you through the processes to create your ppt templates.

What is the purpose of a template and why should I use one?

• PPT templates are a kind of ready-made presentation template. It provides a framework for the content and layout of your slides.• Background, colors, titles, and other elements are present.

• With all styles and slides defined, all you have to do is add your text and photos to use the template for as many presentations as you like. This will help you save a lot of time on presentation pro.

• PPT Templates are very useful for business. Create a template that matches the corporate design, which can be used by every employee from now on. This saves time and ensures a regular and professional appearance of your company.

The slide master

The most important tool for designing templates is the slide master. It's accessible from the PowerPoint menu by choosing View

In the left pane, you'll discover a couple of slides that don't (yet) have a layout. You'll also notice a larger slide at the top, connected to other slides by dotted lines. This is your "main slide".

Everything you do there affects the rest of the slides. Choose a different background color for the slide master to see how it works. The colors of the other slides also change.

Each slide design has its template. Once you're done working on the main slide, you can move on to additional slide layouts. You may find that some are already pristine. In that case, you can leave them alone. For those who don't want to or don't want to edit the master slides in your ppt template, here are some helpful tips on what you can edit:

• Background: Not every slide layout may require the same background. To turn off the background assigned to the slide, simply check the Hide background graphics box in the top menu of the slide master.

The background can be easily created from scratch.

• Footers: You may not want the footer to appear on some slides. To remove the Task Line Footers check box, clear it.

• Title: The same principle applies here.

TIP: You may want a different preconfigured layout. You can create a template for this by right-clicking the gray box on the left with all your layouts and selecting Paste layout.

You can rename the layout by right-clicking on the new layout and giving it a meaningful name. You can treat it similarly to the other layouts and easily customize it to suit your needs. Keep your graphic and use it in a presentation. When you are happy with how all your designs look, click File and then Save As to save the template. Now you can save it as a ppt template (*.potx) by selecting any folder or using the one provided by PowerPoint.

Close PowerPoint and reopen it. Then change the Office settings to Personal or Custom in the orange left sidebar. Your template should now appear in this area. You can create a new presentation with your predefined layouts by clicking on it.

You can also set your template as default. To do this, go to the bottom right corner of the template and then click the pin to add it to your list.
