Leasing or Financing – What’s the Difference?

There are a couple different payment options to pick from when getting a new car. Financing or leasing are the two most common options people pick from. If you are unsure about what the differences are and what will be best for you, we are going to help make things clear. Your obligations and what your payments cover are the two main differences for these purchasing options. Let's dive into the details now.

Car Ownership

A lease is essentially a long-term rental of a vehicle. When leasing, you don’t actually own the vehicle you have, which means you can’t do whatever you want with it. At the end of your lease, you will have the options to either return it, or actually purchase it for the remaining amount still left owing on the car. But when you finance a vehicle, this is you actually purchasing it from the get-go and you own it. You are allowed to do whatever you want with your own car. This means you can modify it, paint it, change the speakers, sell it, or just park it and leave it wherever you want.
