They fell asleep faster, woke up less often during the night, and got more REM sleep. These were all people who had experienced chronic sleeplessness for at least a year before entering the study.


A study found that bright light therapy helped people with dementia sleep better. They received two hours of bright light exposure a day for 14 days. Most reduced their nocturnal waking time by two hours, and all improved their ability to fall asleep. The researchers suggest getting 30 minutes of sunlight a day if possible; if you can't get outside, use a bright indoor light.
