Types of Military Antenna

The safety of a nation is the ultimate goal of the military. To keep the country safe, the military uses different kinds of antennas for better communication. These antennas are designed by some of the best technicians and engineers for improving communication.

Military antennas have many benefits because of which they are used on a wide scale in naval and army. They come in different sizes and shapes. In this blog, we will explain the kinds of military antennas in detail.

What is Antenna?

The antenna is a kind of metallic device that catches radio electromagnetic waves. It is available in small as well as large sizes. This device captures signals even from a far distance.

How Antenna Works?

It is simple to understand the working of an Antenna. There are 2 parts in an antenna namely Antennas and transmitters. The first part captures signals and the second part bounces back the signal at various frequencies. These frequencies depend upon the complexity of the data.

We can say that an antenna is a tool that receives and transmits signals. These signals are also known as radio or TV waves.

Military Surveillance Antenna

As the name suggests, Military Surveillance Antenna is a device that is used for surveillance in the military. This device is normally used for Navigation, Identification, and Communication.

Military Surveillance Antenna comes in different types. They include omnidirectional and direction, circular polarized, and linear polarized. One can use this antenna in voice and HD video links. These surveillance antennas are in mobile applications and fixed apps.

Many government agencies also use military surveillance antennas for special operations. These antennas have customizable options and you can use them as per your need.

Military Tactical Antenna

The second type of military antenna is the military tactical antenna. It is used by the military to gain a smooth communication process. This antenna comes in different types such as shipboard, man-portable, vehicle, ground-deployed, and shelter. It covers VHF, HF, and UHF, frequency bands.

Tactical antennas are used mainly for combat communication and ground combat. They work with the help of microwaves. Normally, the size of a military tactical is smaller than other kinds of military tactical antennas.

Because of its small size, it is easy to use this antenna and carry it anywhere during emergencies and other situations.

Military Log Periodic Antenna

Another name for the Military log periodic antenna is a log-periodic array. It is a kind of directional antenna that provides wideband frequencies. This antenna was discovered in the year 1952 by John Dunlavy.

One common type of log periodic antenna is LPDA or log-periodic dipole array. This antenna contains several half-wave dipole-driven elements of increasing length containing metal rods. Diploes in this kind of antenna is attached in a line.

LPDA looks similar to Yagi Antennas. You can do the best quality surveillance with the help of a log-periodic antenna. It can be also used in all kinds of weather apps. A log-periodic antenna is made of high-grade materials that do not rust with water. You do not need any ground plane to use this kind of antenna.

Military Discone Antenna

The next type of military antenna is the Military discone antenna. It is a kind of biconical antenna in which a disc replaces a cone. This antenna is mounted in a vertical direction with a disc at the top position and the cone at the bottom. It gives a frequency ratio of about 10:1.

The radiation pattern is narrow in a military discone antenna. Normally, a discone antenna has 3 major parts such as disc, cone, and insulator. This antenna is developed from a soil metal such as copper. There are many metal wires and rods in a military discone antenna that helps to reduce wind loading.

This type of antenna is used in military, radio scanner applications, and amateur radio. It contains about 8 to 16 metal rods.

Military Multi-Band Antenna

The last type of military antenna is a multi-band antenna. It is a type of omnidirectional antenna used for several purposes in the military. They give frequency bands between 20 and 2000 MHz. Normally; a multi-band antenna is made from high-grade brass and aluminum alloy.

No adjustments or fields are tuned in a military multi-band antenna. It is small in size and easy to handle and carry anywhere in your bags. Apart from that, a multi-band antenna is also suitable for every kind of weather. It helps to receive and transmit waves without the use of several antennas.

Military multi-band antennas are rust-resistant and do not damage by water. They also give transparent RF signals during communication. Besides, these antennas can also handle heavy wind loads during harsh climatic conditions. You can also mount a multi-band antenna on any type of military vehicle.
