Several years ago, Audio Precision was acquired by Hanover Partners, a private equity firm. The company's management and key employees formed an ownership group, which partnered with Hanover Partners to develop a broad-based stock option plan. The company was eventually sold to the private equity firm, and the owner group was comprised of the management team and employee shareholders. In the end, the company achieved a large financial gain. Here's how Audio Precision's acquisition story unfolded.

Founded in 1984, Audio Precision is a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments. Headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, the company had over $15 million in revenue at the time of acquisition. The company's proprietary software and patents have helped engineers and technicians develop and manufacture everything from consumer products to semiconductor devices. With its high-end audio analyzers, testing software and modules, and engineering talent, Audio Precision has a reputation for high quality and consistent revenue. The APx517B acoustic analyzer from Audio Precision is designed specifically for production-line testing of microphones, speakers, headphones, and other consumer electronics. It features robust integrated hardware, digital interface options, and accredited calibration. This high-end instrument is the perfect solution for audio engineers who need a portable, cost-effective solution to test products. A new model, the APx500 Flex, will launch in early 2016.

Unlike most audio analyzers on the market, Audio Precision's APx555B offers a full 1 MHz bandwidth and lowers the residual THD+N of analog systems. It also has a full 24-bit resolution and is capable of doing FFTs with 1.2 million points. A full 1 MHz bandwidth makes it ideal for measuring low-frequency signals. The APx555B has a typical residual THD+N of -120 dB.
