The materials used to make jewellery can vary greatly. There are many different types of metals used in making jewellery including gold, silver, copper, nickel, palladium, platinum, titanium, tungsten, etc. One of the most popular materials used today is stainless steel.

Other materials may include acrylic, ceramics, glass, wood, leather, etc. Each material has their different and unique characteristics along with various other uses. You should always do some research before purchasing any jewellery.

1. Black Stone

Black stones are formed deep underground where water remains pure and free from any impurities. These black stones are known for their hardness, scratch resistance, and high luster. Black stones are commonly referred to as obsidian, jasper, agate, and smoky quartz.

2. White Stones

White stones are basically white in color due to the abundance of air pockets and voids. These stones have been found at shallow depths and are called white chalcedony or selenite. White stones are generally soft and pliable.

3. Blue Stones

Blue stones are found deep under the surface of the earth and are very rare. They are known for their hardness and durability in making of moonstone ring. Most blue stones are hard enough to cut diamonds to pieces; hence, they are also called diamond-cutting stones. These blue stones are known as azurite (azure), malachite (green copper ore), and lapis lazuli.

4. Brown Stones

Brown stones are the hardest type of stones. They are found both above and below ground level. Most brown stones are composed of iron oxides, while some may contain tiny amounts of carbon and clay. Some examples of these stones are carnelian, hematite, siderite, serpentine, and tourmaline.

5. Green Stones

Green stones are mainly made out of calcite, which is a mineral that contains calcium, oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon. Most green stones are found in the ocean. Examples of these stones are agate, jadeite, kunzite, mica, travertine, and marble.

6. Pink & Purple Stones

Pink and purple stones are mostly made up of iron oxide and/or manganese oxide along with various other minerals. Many of these rocks were originally found in the sea but are now mined from land as well. These stones are highly valued for healing stone necklace making since they emit different colors depending on the amount of iron and manganese present inside them. Some types of pink and purple stones are amethyst, bloodstone, fuchsite, hyacinth, lepidocrocite, topaz, and zoisite.

7. Yellow Stones

Yellow stones are made primarily from silicate compounds. They are formed deep underground and contain aluminum, silicon, sulfur, oxygen, and phosphate. Some yellow stones that people collect today are catlinite, celestite, citrine, danburite, granodiorite, gosnoldite, hibonite, hypersthene, monzonite, opal, pyrite, sparsenite, staurolite, tektronite, tetrahedrite, and ulexite.
