I would be panicking about medieval costumes if I was invited to a medieval themed dress up party! There are some themes where it is really easy to make your own costume, such as a hippy party, a twenties party, a pirate or a burlesque party, but medieval themes are hard! Actually, they are not really hard it is just that we do not have those kinds of dresses, suits and accessories in our wardrobe. Medieval costumes are usually pretty elaborate, which is part of why a medieval themed party is so much fun. The fashion is elaborate, the food is elaborate, the entertainment is elaborate and the decor is elaborate. This is the kind of party that you want to plan well, if you are throwing the party, and this is the kind of party that you want to dress up for, if you are invited to the party.
What constitutes a medieval party
Medieval times were the middle ages and if you look at costumes online you will see that medieval times were very different to our times now. The clothing that people wore were fancy! Women wore velvet and taffeta, silk and satin, head veils and elaborate jewels and shoes. Men wore ruffles and velvet and high heels! The clothing was really magnificent although it must have taken a long time to always get dressed. And medieval dinner tables were laden with food, tons of meat, huge pigs, lambs and chickens, an excess of vegetables and accompaniments and always, wine and more wine. Wine flowed which is also why medieval parties are such fun for adults but not appropriate for children at all!

While we say that the clothing was really elaborate and it must have taken women, and men, hours to get dressed each day, Medieval fancy dress costumes look fancy as anything but are made to be easy to put on and off and easy to wear. And the clothing is really beautiful but it is very affordable. You can buy medieval costumes to wear to a fancy dress party or you can hire medieval costumes. Look at both options and see which one works for you. Note too that the person hosting the medieval themed party is going to a lot of trouble and the party is likely to be fantastic. Put effort into your costume because everybody is going to put effort into it. You do not want to be the only one wearing the wrong attire!
