Remember when you were still in school, and no matter how crummy you thought the school year was, you knew that you could look forward to the greatest time of your life - summer vacation? The same still applies, in some ways, to movie lovers, as the summer usually brings with it a massive crop of new movie releases that are sure to please the movie fan in all of us. Well, at the very least, those who are big fans of the summer blockbuster are sure to be excited.
This has been perhaps been the biggest criticism of movies that have shown up during the summer months. There seems to be an unwritten rule for moviemakers to make the biggest, most bombastic action movie that chokes every ounce of life out of CGI and breaks the bank with stuntmen salaries.
But is this such a bad thing? Think about it. Why do we go to the movies? Are we trying to have serious philosophical debates about humanity or understand how exactly the concept of divinity plays a role in our lives from birth to death? No. We go to the movies to have fun. We want the big explosions. We look forward to the killer car chases & crazy stunt work because we don't have to think about it so much. Consider your original love for summer vacations when you were in school. It meant that for a few months, you spent more time thinking about what cereal you wanted to eat rather than algebra.
