How to report work experience in APEGS CBA System

Before you become capable of applying for your APEGS professional licence, you need to have four years of geoscience work experience or engineering work experience that must be assessed by the Experience Review Committee.

APEGS Registration Eligibility Criteria:

For registration, you need to be registered as an engineering-in-training or geoscientist-in-training, or a member-in-training applicant who has been given the task of work experience reporting option to try and get confirmatory exams waived.

What is CBA, and how it can help you?

APEGS utilizes an online competency-based assessment (CBA) system to evaluate your work experience. Besides providing validated examples to show each of the competencies, you need to have at least four years of experience validated in this system.

You can find necessary information about the competency-based assessment process for an applicant, validator, and assessor in the Competency Assessment Guide. We strongly recommend that you carefully read this guide before your begin your assessment.

How to report in the CBA system:

Follow the following steps for APEGS work experience reporting in the CBA system:

Go to https://competencyassessment.ca.

Choose the ‘Applicants’ section.

Adhere to the instruction on the screen.

Create an account with your APEGS Registration/Application number as your User ID.

Pick ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.

You will get a mail notification when your account is approved. It may take up to 5 business days. These accounts are approved manually M-F 8:00 to 5:00.

Reach the system by choosing ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’.

Start entering your information adhering to the instructions on the screen. At this time, your educational information doesn’t show in the CBA system.

If you have any issues with the system, contact us.

After the proper assessment of your work experience, you will get the result by mail. If you don’t pass the first time, you will get the opportunity to redo any competencies that didn’t fulfill the requirements.

Usually, one can receive their assessment result within 6 to 8 weeks after all validations are complete. If your validators are not accepted, APEGS will inform you and the validation process will have to be redone.
