The PEO Licensure Assistance Program, which is also called LAP, provides experienced licensed professionals with the opportunity to transfer their skills and knowledge to aspiring EITs pursuing their licence for engineering. Let’s know about it in detail.
Introduction to Licensure Assistance Program:
The Licensure Assistance Program of PEO is a program linking engineering interns (interns) with professional engineers (guides) licensed with PEO to give the interns some guidance and support as they move towards attaining their professional engineering licence.
Professional Engineers Ontario thinks that this program will provide new engineers with a much deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities for success in their picked profession.
Keep in mind: Not every PEO chapter is taking part in the LAP at this time. So, you should contact your chapter chair to ensure that your chapter takes part in the LAP.
Licensure Assistance Program application:
Read this agreement attentively. To proceed, you need to agree with and understand the below-given policy:
PEO, the authority doesn’t monitor individual licensure assistance program relationships.
Taking part in the LAP doesn’t guarantee licensure with PEO. A participant has to still fulfill all the requirements for licensure as given in PEO’s guidelines.
The purpose of this program is to guide interns as they make progress toward licensing. It is not to help interns find a job or a professional engineer referee. You should not put these expectations on your guide.
The PEO LAP is not a form for guides or interns to sell products or services. These activities are a conflict of interest.
Who can be an intern and a guide?
Engineering interns within the participating chapters are eligible for becoming interns.
A professional engineer who is licensed with PEO within the participating chapters can become a guide.
Who cannot?
The main purpose of the Licensure Assistance Program is to help guide engineering interns by means of the licensing process, develop as a professional and assimilate into the engineering community.
While some discussion around career matters may come up, PEO doesn’t intend this program to be a job finding mechanism. This program will not help you find a job not satisfy the requirements for a professional engineer referee.
It’s wise to read PEO’s Experience Guidelines outlining the referee requirements, including the professional engineer monitor’s role.
