How to choose a jacket that fits your needs

With winter at the doorstep, it is time to choose a new jacket. Can’t make up your mind on which one to choose? This guide will show you the key factors you should look for during your next jacket purchase!

Jacket Type

Puffer jackets

Puffer jackets featuring a quilted structure with puffy-looking sections are great for staying warm without adding bulk. This outerwear is easy to compress and lightweight making it ideal for very active people.

Parkas

Parkas are long winter jackets that reach up to your mid-thigh or even knee.  Its durable shell material makes them reliable protection for people living in cold and windy places.

3-in-1 jackets

3-in-1 jackets are what you need if you travel through different weather in a day. This transitional outerwear allows you to wear just the mid-layer or the outer shell, or both pieces together making it easy to adapt to the changing weather. Most styles come with a lightweight inner layer for protection from mild wind and a water-resistant outer layer for the harsher climates

Softshell jackets

Softshell jackets are lightweight outerwear that comes with breathability and moisture-wicking features and can be used as an insulating mid-layer. The jacket’s stretchiness, warmth, and breathability make it a great choice for active outdoor adventures.

Insulation

Down Insulation

Down is a natural insulator made from feathers. It offers great warmth despite being lightweight, and compressible. As down jackets do not dry very quickly, they are better suited for cold buy dry climates.

Synthetic Insulation

Synthetic insulation is fast drying, is cheap, and can keep you cozy in humid climates or rain. However, this outerwear made of polyester fibers is a little heavier and difficult to pack for people who travel a lot.

Jacket Features

Other than the jacket type and the type of insulation you should also look for specific features that will make the jacket more suitable for your needs. Some of the most common jacket features that you can choose from include detachable hoods, drawcords at the hem and hood, pit zips and vents, thermal retention cord at the waist, reflective strips for enhanced visibility, waterproof shell for rain protection, inner lining and so on.
