History

Over the years, Megalodon teeth have been discovered as the teeth of sharks. Shark teeth were thought to be triangular objects that fell from the sky during lunar eclipses, according to Pliny the Elder, who lived in the 70th century AD.

Europeans believed they were petrified snakes and dragon tongues during the Middle Ages. They were also known as "tongue stones." In addition to being employed in healing, megalodon teeth were worn as pendants. Megalodon teeth were also used by Native Americans as scrapers and necklaces. In 1843, Louis Agassiz gave the creature the official name "Megalodon."

In the warm oceans of the Miocene and Pliocene, Megalodon was a common species. Except Antarctica, every continent has produced C. megalodon fossils.
