Which are the Best Types of Fertilizers for Cotton Farming in India?

For More Information: Best Types of Fertilizers

India’s expected cotton production in 2022-23 is around 375 lakh bales. Significant credit for this bumper cotton crop will go to cotton fertilizers. Fertilizers are one of the most important components in cotton farming. In this blog, we will discuss the best fertilizers for cotton.

Best Fertilizer considerations for Cotton

All good fertilizers need to fulfill certain cotton plant fertilizer requirements. Here are the best fertilizers to use in cotton farming.

NPK fertilizers

NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) fertilizers are very popular in cotton farming. The main part of cotton fiber is cellulose, which is made up of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. All of the molecules and parts of a plant are built around these elements. Mineral nutrients like Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and micronutrients are taken out during the ginning process, along with the seeds and trash.

These nutrients only make up 1% of the bale’s weight. During the planting of cotton plants, NPK fertilizers are used to balance the soil’s essential, secondary, and micronutrients. The right mixture and balance will be used based on what’s in the soil and what the crop needs, and what the expected yield is. Remember that along with the right fertilizer, you will also need good cotton seeds.

Integrated nutrient management

It is recommended that the needed nutrients come from both organic and inorganic sources. This is called an integrated supply mode. Many field tests have shown that half of the nitrogen should come from organic sources, and the other half should come from fertilizers, along with full amounts of P and K. This is the best way to get nutrients to plants in an integrated way.
