How Growth Marketing Works

Growth marketing is a data-driven approach to marketing that helps businesses grow by acquiring and retaining customers. By analyzing data, growth marketers are able to identify which marketing channels are most effective at acquiring new customers and which channels are most effective at retaining them. They then focus their efforts on these channels to drive sustainable growth.

There are four main stages of growth marketing: acquisition, activation, retention, and referral.

Acquisition is all about bringing new users into the fold. The goal is to get as many people as possible to try your product or service. To do this, growth marketers use a variety of acquisition channels, such as paid advertising, social media, content marketing, and search engine optimization (SEO). They also experiment with different offer types, such as free trials and discount codes, to see what works best.

Activation is about converting new users into paying customers. Once someone has signed up for your product or service, it's important to get them using it as soon as possible. The goal is to create a great user experience that will keep them coming back. To do this, growth marketers focus on onboarding and engagement. They use data to understand how users interact with their product and make changes accordingly.

Retention is about keeping your existing customers happy so they continue to use your product or service. To do this, growth marketers focus on creating value for their customers and helping them solve their specific problems. They use data to understand what their customers need and want and then create content, features, and offers that address these needs.

Referral is about getting your existing customers to promote your product or service to others. To do this, growth marketers focus on creating an exceptional customer experience that will inspire word-of-mouth marketing. They also provide incentives for customers who refer others, such as discounts and free products.
