Box office for the Thanksgiving weekend is estimated at $95 million, making it one of the worst-performing holiday weekends in recent history.

IndieWire points out that Thanksgiving weekend traditionally has been a big one for movies; the last time Hollywood made less than $95 million was in 1984, when ticket prices averaged a little more than $4. In 2019, the Thanksgiving weekend's total was $181 million.

It's obvious that theaters are still struggling for consistent movie-goers as Disney's animated "Strange World" made an estimated $18.6 million, and now is projected to lose $100 million vs. its production costs.

"Wakanda: Forever" made $64 million over the five-day weekend, dropping just 31%, BoxOffice Mojo reports. Normally, ticket sales drop at least 50% from the opening weekend of a movie. The "Wakanda" sequel did drop 63% over its first weekend after opening Nov. 11.

"Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" made $13.3 million in 696 locations, Deadline reports. It will only be in theaters a short time before streaming on Netflix beginning Dec. 23.

Irene Cara dies

Irene Cara, whose songs accompanied 80s movies, has died at the age of 63, Deadline reports. She won a Best Song Oscar for "What a Feeling," which was used in "Flashdance." She also won Grammys for her role as a lyricist.

This is the absolute worst part of being a publicist. I can't believe I've had to write this, let alone release the news. Please share your thoughts and memories of Irene. I'll be reading each and every one of them and know she'll be smiling from Heaven. She adored her fans. - JM
