Old Barns have always been a rich part of American History and without a doubt were at one time “The family gathering place” as the family gathered to milk the cows and feed the farm animals. These old gathering places are being transformed to a new gathering place where friends and family can sit down and share a meal on a piece of American History that would undoubtedly have many a memory to share and story to tell. When you invest in a beautiful reclaimed barnwood table you are not only investing in a table that will become a family heirloom, but you are also saving a piece of American History from rotting away to a heap of rubble. Every old barn that is rescued from ruin also saves an average of 35 trees from being harvested.

Online Amish Furniture

In late 1997, one of our partners was shopping for a dining room set and noticed the sets in the big box stores were all cheaply made and used inferior wood substitutes. He did some research and discovered a thriving furniture industry in the Shipshewana Indiana area. He found they produced solid wood pieces using time proven construction methods, exactly the quality furniture he was looking for. He purchased an Amish made dining set and returned home to Michigan. After many dinner guests complimented him on the set and asked where he had purchased it, he realized there was an untapped market for quality furniture in Southeast Michigan. He enlisted a fellow automotive engineer and together they spent many weekends driving the back roads of Shipshewana IN., Goshen IN., and various Amish enclaves around Millersburg Ohio. Together they met and enlisted 80 Amish builders to help them bring Amish furniture to the Metro Detroit area and in August of 1998 they opened a brick and mortar store. The demand was huge and the store was expanded within the first year!

As our sales, customer referrals and local media attention grew, so did our many Amish partnerships. We were constantly updating our offerings and went from carrying 80 to 180 in Indiana and Ohio. Over the years business continued to thrive and, after a year of development, in 2004 OnlineAmishFurniture.com was created to offer quality Amish furniture to the entire United States as well as Canada. Needless to say, sales again exploded as more consumers realized there was an alternative to the disposable furniture offered in their local big box stores. Within 2 years our nationwide online sales well exceeded those of our local store as we were the largest retailer of Amish furniture online. The brick and mortar store was sold in 2006 and all of our efforts were dedicated to OnlineAmishFurniture.com. Since the move to an ecommerce business we have shipped Amish furniture to consumers in every state, every province of Canada, many countries in Europe, New Zealand and even as far away as Australia!
