Youngsville Nc

The historic town of Wake Forest struggles to maintain the viability of its core historic downtown district which dried up over half a century ago when the College of Wake Forest moved to Winston Salem, N.C.

The area is very quaint and reminiscence Youngsville Nc of times gone by. The Taste of Wake Forest Festival will show the history as well as the opportunities of living in the historic town today.

Wake Forest is the original home of W. F. University, prior to the tobacco fiefdom of the Reynolds family, decided to counter the move of their #1 competitor, James Duke. When Mr. Duke was able to convince Trinity College to change its name for many millions of $$'s as well as land and buildings Reynolds decided to counter the move. Originally the Reynolds family approached Davidson College in the Piedmont area of N.C. basically due to the religious beliefs of the Davidson College philosophy. Davidson College administration did not want to move or change its name so they refused the offer.

Wake Forest College was cash-strapped at the time and could use millions, as well as property, but they were funded by N.C. Baptist Association. The Reynolds family approached with their offer to N.C. Baptist Assoc. who were struggling to keep the college afloat. After some negotiations, as well as waiting for those attending the annual convention from the Eastern part of N.C., to head back home on a Sunday morning from Asheville, N.C. after the Association meeting, the vote was taken. It was a strategic move knowing those in the Eastern and Raleigh area would disapprove, so as the "Easterners" headed home it was approved to move the college to Winston Salem, although the name change did not occur as hoped.

Today the town is very proud of its association with Wake Forest University as well as Southeastern Seminary, which had been part of Wake Forest College but remained behind after the move to occupy the former buildings of Wake Forest College.

The first Taste of Wake Forest festival is about how this small town has grown and continues to grow despite the serious setback of years ago. Today it is a thriving town full of charm, history, and family-friendly.

The first festival will highlight the Town and its historic core of lore and legend.
