All About Masseter Botox treatment

The masseter muscle runs down both sides of the rear of your face from the cheekbones down to your jawline. It is an extremely important muscle that helps with chewing, smiling, and many facial expressions. It is also responsible for how prominent the lower jaws look and the broader structure of the face. Sadly, prominent masseter muscles give the face a masculine look, and many people look for a way to correct that.

What is masseter Botox?

The masseter is one of the muscles that help you chew. It’s located on the side of your face and connects your cheekbone to your lower jawbone.

When Botox is injected into the masseter, it’s called a masseter Botox. It’s sometimes called jaw Botox.

The treatment uses botulinum toxin to temporarily block nerve signals in the masseter. As a result, the muscle is unable to move.

  • Avoid alcohol the day leading up to the procedure.

During the procedure

Here’s what you can expect during the procedure:

  1. A medical professional will clean your skin to reduce the risk of infection. They may use a topical anesthesia to numb the area.
  2. They prepare a syringe with the botulinum toxin. The syringe will have a very thin needle.
  3. Next, they insert the needle into your masseter muscle. They slowly withdraw the needle as they inject the toxin.
  4. They may repeat the procedure on the other side. The number of syringes necessary depend on what you’re treating.

The procedure typically lasts 15 minutes.
