Types of Current Transformer
1. Window Current Transformers
A secondary winding is wrapped around a core and the primary is fed through the aperture in the core to create a window current transformer. The assembly is put into a mould once the secondary has been twisted around the core, and an insulating substance is then injected to surround the transformer. There is a release of taps from the winding (see Figure 3). The primary is a power wire that is inserted through the window. The finished product is known as a window current transformer.
2. Bar Current Transformers
A unique kind of window current transformer called a bar current transformer has a solid bar that is permanently inserted through the window. Heavy overcurrent can be handled with a bar current transformer. Care must be made to position these transformers correctly in relation to neighboring conductors in order to prevent magnetic strains that could destroy the bus and harm the transformer. Typically, this type of transformer is installed in settings with potentials of 25 kV or less.
3. Wound Current Transformers
A transformer with distinct primary and secondary windings encircling a laminated core is known as a wound current transformer. The primary winding of a wound current transformer is constructed with one or more turns of wire with a large cross-section linked in series with the circuit to be measured. These current transformers have a primary conductor for the current to flow through and a wound current transformer for the output current. They are found on the high-voltage side of substations.
