How Variable Auto Transformers Work

Changing voltage auto transformers are rated in terms of current taken from the output since the output voltage is constantly variable.

Variable auto transformers are designed to operate from a nominal input voltage of 240 V I ph AC and may provide output voltages ranging from 0 to 240 V or 0 to 270V AC through simple transformer action. 3Ph AC and may also provide output ranging from 0 to 415V or 0 to 470V.
