The NDA exam (National Defence Academy Exam) is a competitive entrance exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in India. It is held twice a year and is a gateway to the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Naval Academy (INA).

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must be an Indian citizen.
  • Male candidates between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age are eligible to appear for the NDA exam.

Exam Pattern:

  • The NDA exam consists of two stages: a written examination and a personal interview.
  • The written examination consists of two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test.
  • Mathematics paper tests a candidate's knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and statistics.
  • The General Ability Test consists of two parts: English and General Knowledge.
  • The English section tests a candidate's knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills.
  • The General Knowledge section covers a wide range of topics, including current events, history, geography, economics, and political science.
  • The marks obtained in the written exam are used to shortlist candidates for the interview.
  • The personal interview is conducted by a panel of officers and assesses a candidate's leadership qualities, mental and physical abilities, and other personal traits.

Selection Process:

  • The final selection is based on the marks obtained in the written exam and the personal interview.
  • The written exam carries 900 marks and the interview carries 300 marks, for a total of 1200 marks.
  • Candidates must secure a minimum qualifying marks in both the written examination and the interview.
  • A merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates, and the top-ranked candidates are selected for admission to the National Defence Academy or the Indian Naval Academy.
