Highlights
- A list of activities to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from 23 – 29 August-2021 was scheduled by the Minister of Information and Radio Broadcast under the Iconic Week of the Ministry to celebrate 75-year independence initiative of India.
- The Iconic Week will be a grand celebration of the ministry under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which highlights the convergence of the values and glories of past liberation struggles with the aspirations and dreams of a young, new and iconic India.
- The great celebration will attract national participation in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari and Jan Andolan.
Goal
- The goal is to showcase New India’s journey and celebrate the efforts of freedom fighters and also the unsung heroes of the struggle for freedom through mass activism.
- The ministry will make extensive efforts via traditional means, such as cultural programmes, nuclear natak, TV and digital media.
Activities
- Collaborative effort of different States and regional Ministry offices to reach schools and colleges throughout India Radio’s daily “Azadi Ka Safar, Akashvani Ke Saath” capsule.
- Dharohar (speeches of leaders of freedom) and Nishaan (75 landmark sites to be showcased), Aparajita are special programmes that will be launched by AIR Network (Women leaders).
- In addition to the daily capsule on Unsung heroes and freedom struggles “DD Network will broadcast sector programmes under the headings of the “Naye Bharat Ka Naya Safar” and the “Departure for New India” covering topics like diplomacy, digital India, legislative reforms etc.
- In the Iconic Week, iconic films will be screened. A number of documentaries like ‘Netaji,’ ‘Merger of the Principally States‘ etc. are presented by the DD Network. The same applies for television to popular Indian films such as Razi.

To witness this historical, cultural, national consciousness, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav’ program dedicated to the 75th anniversary of independence by flagging off a padayatra (freedom march) from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi means the elixir of inspiration from the freedom fighters.
