Child Custody Agreements in California
Child custody and visitations are perhaps the most contentious area of divorce. Timesharing for your children is not always agreed to by both parties and coming to an agreement becomes next to impossible due to so much at stake.
In California, there are two types of custody: legal and physical.
One of the most common forms of custody awarded by courts is joint legal custody, where both parents share the responsibility of making important decisions regarding the child's education, healthcare, and upbringing. On the other hand, sole legal custody drastically reduces the parental rights of the non-custodial parent.
Similarly, physical custody refers to the time that each parent will spend with the child. A parenting plan where joint physical custody is enforced means that the child spends time with each parent, though this time isn't distributed equally.
If the parents fail to come to an agreement with a child-sharing plan, the court intervenes and creates a binding timeframe within which each parent has to care for the children.
