A golfer usually carries their clubs around in a golf bag. Although historically bags have been fashioned from different materials, modern golf bags are composed of nylon, canvas, and/or leather with reinforcement and framing made of plastic or metal. Golf bags contain a number of pockets made specifically for carrying the numerous tools, Golf Equipment and materials needed during a round of golf.
The top entrance of almost all bags is divided into sections by solid supports for rigidity and to separate Golf Equipment of different types for easy picking. More costly bags contain compartments or sleeves within the main compartment for each individual club, making it easier to remove and subsequently replace the needed club without snagging on the grips of the other clubs or the bag's internal hardware.
Carry bags are often made of lightweight materials to lessen the load on the player or caddy. They typically feature single or multiple shoulder straps and are meant to be carried by the player while on the course. Sunday bags are frequently marketed as "minimalist" carry bags. They are extremely lightweight, flexible, and have storage pockets for the essentials of play (clubs, balls, tees), but frequently lack more sophisticated features like segregated club storage, insulated pockets for drinks, stand legs, etc.
In addition to strong internal reinforcement and retractable fold-out legs that transform the bag into a tripod and enable it to be firmly set on the turf, stand bags, which belong to the same family as carry bags, are also available.
