Truck insurance FAQs

What is the procedure for commercial truck insurance?

Commercial truck insurance provides financial compensation for the victims and repairs to the damaged property when a truck driver is at fault in an accident.

Additional coverages, including comprehensive and collision, cargo, PIP, and uninsured/underinsured drivers, may be available via commercial truck insurance. When an accident occurs, the motorist will file a claim with the insurance company.

How much does insurance cost for a commercial truck?

The price of commercial auto insurance varies from person to person for the same reason that the price of any insurance policy does. Vehicle type, coverage limits, mileage, cargo, years in the industry, and even the age and driving history of the driver all play a role in determining the insurance cost.

In 2023, commercial truck insurance was expected to cost between $640 and $982 per month on average throughout the country, as reported by Progressive.

The meaning of fleet insurance.

Insuring a fleet of vehicles is necessary for organizations that use more than one Vehicle. When purchased as a fleet, the cars are covered under the same policies at a reduced rate. While the standard definition of a fleet is five or more cars, some insurance providers would consider providing commercial fleet coverage if you have two or more vehicles.

What's the difference between bobtail insurance and regular liability insurance?

During an emergency, when the Vehicle is not being utilized for business, the owner-operator is protected by non-trucking liability insurance. When a trailer isn't hitched to a truck, the latter is considered "bobtailed," and its insurance policy responds accordingly. Bobtail insurance can protect you whether or not you are using the Vehicle for business.
