Disability Support Services Near Me

People with disabilities and their families can often find a wide variety of disability support services near me. These services can range from home health care to assistance with learning new skills and finding employment.

Using a person-centered approach, these disability support services help individuals live their best lives. They focus on independence, productivity and community inclusion.

DDS

DDS, or Disability Determination Services, is a division of the NC Department of

Health and Human Services and is primarily funded by the federal government’s Social Security Administration. DDS makes medical determinations for both Social Security and state Medicaid disability claims.

DDS offers a suite of online tools and resources to help people with disabilities make informed choices about their health care options, including choosing the best doctors, finding affordable healthcare services and getting their medications in order. The agency also tries to make sure people with disabilities are aware of the latest in medical and legal developments, including new guidelines and laws.

OPWDD

OPWDD offers a range of supports and services to help people with disabilities live full and meaningful lives. Those services can include community living skills, support with daily living tasks and socialization, and employment.

Getting Started

The first step in the process is a determination of eligibility from OPWDD and an assessment to identify the individual’s needs, wants and strengths. Using a personcentered planning process, an OPWDD service coordinator will work with the individual and others to plan the supports and services that will best meet their needs.

Eligibility, HCBS Waiver and Medicaid enrollment will be handled by a care coordination organization (CCO). Front Door staff can assist with enrolling in the CCO and connecting participants with other important resources.

DRC

DRC offers disability support services for people with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders and other neurological impairments. These services include home and community-based supports, employment, and day programs.

In addition to the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC, President Tshisekedi's government faces a number of other challenges. Among them, his commitment to advancing economic and social development remains unfulfilled and corruption and the squandering of public resources continue to hinder the government's efforts.

While the international community continues to provide assistance to DRC, it must also address armed groups that continue to violate international law and commit human rights violations. Such armed groups, including the M23 rebel group in NordKivu, have killed hundreds of civilians and forced more than 200,000 people to flee their homes.

FRCNCA

The Family Resource Centers Network of California (FRCNCA) is a coalition of 47 early start family resource centers across the state. Staffed by parents who have kids with special needs, these centers offer a bevy of services and resources. Some of the more high-tech offerings include websites, newsletters, e-learning, and social media.

The FRCNCA is also home to the state's most prestigious honor, the Distinguished Service Award. This is the only nonprofit organization to ever be awarded such a title by the California Legislature. Its mission is to enhance the lives of Californians with disabilities and their families by promoting the excellence of the state's Family Resource Centers and other community-based services and organizations.

The International Space Station (ISS) is a platform where researchers from all over the world can conduct experiments that can’t be done anywhere else. This is a great way to promote science and technology that can benefit life on Earth. It has also been used to improve the measurement of hurricanes and typhoons, towards minimizing the impact of natural disasters.
