The rapid expansion of 3D printing in recent years is proof of its promise and valuable applications in surgery. With the use of this technology, an accurate prototype of the engineer's draught may be made in a short amount of time. Additionally, the engineer could easily digitally edit the draught and print the revised part if adjustments were required. The aircraft and automotive sectors right away adopted this idea for the quick manufacturing of prototype parts.

An additive manufacturing technique called 3D printing allows the direct fabrication of solid items from a digital file. We think that current developments in additive manufacturing might be applied to the creation of surgical instruments. The feasibility, design, and manufacturing of functional 3D printed medical devices surgical sets up are addressed in this study. Implemented general surgeons tested the final printed items for ergonomic performance and functionality, which included simulating surgery and performing inguinal hernia repairs on human cadavers. By changing the design and build metrics, improvements were found and addressed.

 Utilising the user input of surgeons, repeated production procedures and redesigns resulted in the development of numerous practical and entirely reproducible surgical sets. Simulated surgery and cadaveric inguinal hernia repairs were also used in the testing studies. Simulated surgery involved handling the tools and checking their performance in a non-surgical environment. Ergonomics drove the design modifications that resulted from these simulations. During the surgical cycles, design adjustments were motivated by their performance during the procedure's required steps.
