Fighting fungus and mold with ozonation: simple and effective?

It is known that ozone, being a powerful oxidizer, has a destructive effect on all living organisms - insects and animals, viruses and bacteria, as well as mold spores. The gas acts at a molecular level and has a rapid decay time, which makes it very convenient for household use. Disinfection services actively utilize this by offering air ozonation services.

Currently, the main application of ozone is for eliminating unpleasant odors and disinfecting - it is the most convenient and effective method. The gas fills all the space, reaching even the hardest-to-reach places, and breaks down odor molecules as well as any harmful microorganisms. Usually, one treatment session is enough, but its duration may vary depending on the intensity of the odor, its source, and other factors.

The main advantage of ozonation is the absence of the need to prepare the premises before the procedure. The main condition is the absence of people and pets in the apartment during the procedure and at least one hour after it. Upon returning, the room is aired out and immediately ready for use (wet cleaning is not required).

For tasks such as disinsection and deratization in apartments, ozone is practically not used because insects and rodents will simply run to neighboring apartments and can easily return after the procedure. More effective measures aimed at pest control and long-term protection against their return are used for these purposes.

Recently, some disinfection services have started to actively use ozonation in the fight against fungus and mold:

  • First of all, it should be noted that fungus is a living organism that is also susceptible to the destructive effects of oxidizers such as ozone.

  • The next very important point is that mold spores are present to some degree in any room. These are tiny particles that are present in the air. In rooms infected with mold, there is undoubtedly an excess of mold spores! Ozonation completely cleanses the room of these pathogens.

  • And most importantly, the gas penetrates into the most hard-to-reach places. Where it is impossible to affect mold chemically, ozonation is used. Often, this saves from unnecessary dismantling of furniture or facing.

Of course, ozone treatment cannot completely replace the chemical method of affecting fungus and mold, as well as get rid of mechanical cleaning (in complex cases), but it can give a more reliable and long-lasting result in combination with these methods.
