About the Uses of Various Valve Types

What are Valves ?

In mechanical engineering, Valves are devices that control the flow of fluids by opening, closing, or partially obstructing passageways. They are essential components in a wide range of systems, including pipelines, pumps, engines, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Valves can have different designs and functions, but they typically consist of a body or casing that houses a movable element, such as a disc, ball, or plug, that can be rotated, lifted, or lowered to regulate the flow of fluid through the valve. The movable element is often actuated by a handle, lever, or motor, and may be assisted by springs, gravity, or other means.

These Valves are available in a variety of sizes, forms, and dimensions and may be tailored to meet the needs of our clients. Safety Valves that have passed extensive testing are offered and distributed by Strong Valves.

Types of Valves

There are several types of valves used in engineering and industrial applications. Here are some of the most common types of valves:

Butterfly Valves

Butterfly Valves are a type of quarter-turn valve that are commonly used in industrial and commercial applications to control the flow of fluids. They consist of a circular disc that is mounted on a rotating shaft inside a pipe or duct. Butterfly valves are known for their simple design, low cost, and quick operation. They are also lightweight and compact, which makes them ideal for use in applications where space is limited.

Strainer Valves

Strainer valves are a type of valve that is used to remove any solid particles or debris that may be present in a liquid or gas flow. These valves are designed to protect downstream equipment such as pumps, meters, and control valves from damage or failure that may be caused by particulate matter. The strainer element is made of a mesh or perforated material that allows the liquid or gas to flow through while trapping any solid particles that may be present.

Safety Valves

Safety valves are a type of valve that is designed to protect equipment or processes from overpressure conditions. They are commonly used in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, and power generation.

Gate Valves

Gate valves are a type of valve that is commonly used in industrial applications to control the flow of fluids in pipelines. They are named after the wedge-shaped gate that slides up and down inside the valve body to control the flow of fluid.

Ball Valves

Ball valves consist of a valve body, a ball-shaped valve element, and an actuator that is used to control the position of the valve element. When the valve is open, the ball-shaped element is rotated 90 degrees to allow the fluid to flow through the valve. When the valve is closed, the ball-shaped element is rotated back to its original position, blocking the flow of fluid.
