Video with Smart Compression
Thuraya, the mobile satellite services subsidiary of UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider, Yahsat, has partnered with Norway-based technology company, AnsuR Technologies, to enable businesses across international markets to leverage video compression technology. The partnership introduces AnsuR’s Asmira software solution to Thuraya’s portfolio of advanced solutions, enabling a range of use cases.
Video Compression
Video files can be large, taking up a lot of storage space. To make them easier to store and transfer, a video compression codec can reduce their size by eliminating unnecessary data like duplicate frames or redundant information.
In terms of coding, video compressors use either lossless or lossy compression algorithms. The former eliminates unnecessary data without affecting the quality of the video, while the latter sacrifices some of the quality to achieve greater efficiency.
Thuraya partners with AnsuR Technologies to provide innovative software solutions that deliver high-precision photos and video streaming over bandwidth-limited networks. This is critical for mission-critical applications that require visual situational awareness such as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), security and military operations.
Satellite Communication
Thuraya’s L-band satellite network provides dependable connectivity for mission-critical applications in remote areas. The UAE-based fleet of five satellites covers 80% of the world’s population and offers broadband, satellite broadcasting, network connectivity and mobile communications solutions.
Thuraya has partnered with Norway-based technology company AnsuR to offer its Asmira video compression software solution. Asmira is a versatile network-agnostic software that enables efficient video streaming from remote sites and platforms. It also offers diverse benefits to end users across a range of challenging use cases. This includes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) that improves situational awareness for better safety and security. It also helps in reducing the cost of remote high-precision imagery transmission by optimizing bandwidth use.
Remote Locations
The search for energy resources takes teams to remote regions and harsh environments where effective communication is a necessity. Thuraya EnergyComms helps boost efficiency on-the-go with a suite of applications for SCADA monitoring, security feeds and field-to-field co-ordination.
AnsuR develops innovative software solutions for communicating high-precision photos and video streams via bandwidth-limited networks. Its Asmira video compression technology is versatile and network agnostic, offering diverse benefits across various use cases.
The partnership between Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PJSC, the UAE’s flagship satellite solutions provider, and AnsuR Technologies AS strengthens Thuraya’s portfolio of advanced solutions. It will introduce Asmira to Thuraya’s global distribution network as a bundled license and an airtime subscription package for end-users who require video compression solutions.
Bandwidth Optimization
Streaming real-time HD video over the global Iridium constellation requires efficient use of bandwidth, which is why Thuraya offers software solutions for optimized photo and video transfer. These enable time-sensitive data to be transferred quickly for mission success.
During Operation Arctic Lynx, an international coordinated field demonstration in the polar region, the team transmitted live on-the-move 1080 HD video footage using AnsuR's ASMIRA application over the Iridium Certus network and Thales MissionLINK 700 terminal.
DigiGone is an innovative software solution designed for mobile satellite networks, enabling high-precision photos and video streaming with exceptionally low bandwidth use. The technology is ideal for use on unmanned aircraft, ships and vehicles, providing visual situational awareness.
VSAT
The world has come a long way in terms of connectivity. However, there are many areas that don’t have access to copper or fiber networks. This is where VSAT comes in.
The solution is based on satellite technology, and it allows end-users to send video signals to a central hub station. The signal is then redirected to other end-users.
The solution provides a range of benefits for maritime applications, such as maintenance, safety and security, inspection and monitoring. The system also optimises video for low data rate transfer, ensuring efficient use of bandwidth. It is a cost-effective and simple to deploy solution. This is especially useful for remote locations with fluctuating weather conditions.
Video Streaming
In order for a video stream to play, enough data must transfer from the server hosting the content to the user’s device. If there’s not enough bandwidth, videos can experience delayed playback or even fail to display at all.
When a streaming video is hosted on a CDN server near the user, the video is fetched from that edge server rather than the original host. This reduces load time and buffering.
Thuraya’s satellite communications solutions enable mission-critical video streaming onboard manned and unmanned platforms, including oil and gas, maritime, military and humanitarian NGO vessels. This enables real-time remote situational awareness and high-quality HD imagery to be transmitted over Iridium Certus.
