Klinsmann's interview from last month is revisited and is different from Chairman Chung's explanation of the selection process.

The reason for the appointment of former coach Jürgen Klinsmann (pictured), who was dismissed as the head coach of the Korean national soccer team, became known belatedly. Former coach Klinsmann jokingly asked, “Are you looking for a coach?” and the Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-gyu took this seriously, and things began. This information was included in a report by German weekly magazine Der Spiegel on the 21st of last month. It is the day after Korea played the second match of the Asian Cup group stage against Jordan. It is expected to cause controversy as it differs greatly from what Chairman Chung has explained so far.

According to a Der Spiegel report, former coach Klinsmann jokingly asked Chairman Chung, whom he met in the VIP area of a local stadium during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, “Are you looking for a (new) coach?” However, it is said that Chairman Chung took this seriously and discussions continued afterwards about the position of coach of the Korean national team.

It is said that former coach Klinsmann and Chairman Chung met a day later at a hotel in Doha, Qatar, and talked again. Former coach Klinsmann said, “I said this because we knew each other, so please don’t be stressed and contact me if you are interested.” Former coach Klinsmann explained that a few weeks later, Chairman Chung contacted him and showed interest. Former coach Klinsmann and Chairman Chung became acquainted with each other in 2017. Former coach Klinsmann visited Korea to watch the FIFA Under-20 World Cup held in Korea this year. Former coach Klinsmann's son participated in this tournament as a member of the U.S. under-20 team.

This Der Spiegel report is different from what Chairman Chung explained so far regarding the process of selecting Director Klinsmann. Chairman Chung announced the dismissal of Director Klinsmann on the 16th, saying, “There seem to be several misunderstandings about the director selection process. The initial 61 candidates were narrowed down to 23, and ultimately Michael Mueller, Chairman of the Power Strengthening Committee, prioritized 5 candidates. Five of these candidates were interviewed, and a second interview was conducted with the two who were priorities 1 and 2. And ultimately, Klinsmann was decided.”

Former coach Klinsmann said at his inauguration press conference in March last year, “It is natural for me to live in Korea. “Because he is the coach of the Korean national team.” However, after taking office, he frequently left Korea, causing controversy over the so-called 'working from home' policy. According to the Der Spiegel report, it appears that former coach Klinsmann had no intention of keeping his ‘promise to live in Korea.’ Der Spiegel said, “When appointing Klinsmann, the Football Association announced that it had agreed to move his residence from the United States to Korea. However, Klinsmann did not want to reveal where he lived, and said, “When I was in Seoul, I stayed at a hotel, and when I was not working, I went to Europe or Los Angeles (where I have a home).” In an interview with Der Spiegel, former director Klinsmann said, “The laptop is my office. “I’m just a bird (Vogel, German) flying around, looking for players in Europe and staying at home in California for 10 days.” 성인웹툰
