Bringing Your Family to Canada-Family Visa

Family reunification is one of the most common categories for Canadian immigration. If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you may be able to sponsor specific family members to join you.If you are in Canada temporarily as a student or worker, you may be able to bring your family with you!

Family Sponsorship

You may be eligible to sponsor family members to come to Canada once you become a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. This is known as family sponsorship. Family sponsorship is the second-most common reason for Canadian immigration, trailing only economic immigration.

Under family sponsorship, three sorts of family members are eligible:

1.   Common-law partner or spouse

2.   Children who are financially dependent

3.   Grandparents or parents

You must be at least 18 years old and have enough income to support any family you choose to bring to Canada to be eligible. When you sponsor a family member, they become a permanent resident of Canada.

If you are sponsoring your husband or partner to immigrate to Canada and they have dependent children, you can also sponsor their children.

Who Can Be A Sponsor?

•   A Canadian citizen or permanent resident

•   Must be 18 years or older

•   Able to support the sponsored person financially;

Have never failed to pay an immigration loan, a performance bond, or family support payments

•   Legally married with the sponsor in the native country, (he/she does not need to marry in Canada but the marriage must be legal in the country where they got married).

•   Must provide financial support for your partner for the required years from the time they become a permanent resident.

•   Must not be under a removal order

Super Visa For Parents & Grandparents

The Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program has a limited number of spots available. To show their interest in applying, interested families must fill out an online form. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) perform yearly drawings in which specific people are invited to apply.

To compensate for the program’s limited size, IRCC offers the Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents. This is a multiple-entry visa with a validity period of up to ten years that allows your parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for up to two years on their first visit.

For your parents or grandparents to apply for the Super Visa, you must be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
