How To Tell If Your Gutters Are Working

The gutters of your home are almost always a key to ensuring that your house is very warm, dry, comfortable, and safe no matter how bad the weather gets in your particular region. Water can spell certain disaster for your home and it can quickly lead to a ton of long-term problems.

But with proper gutter maintenance, gutter guard installation, and other features related to them, gutters can be a safe and reliable shield against those problems and long-term damages.

How do you know if your gutters are working? How can you find out if they need to be adjusted, replaced, or repaired? There are a few tips and tricks you should keep in mind and do regularly in order to make sure your gutters are at the top of their game.

Examining Water Quality: To do this, you will take your backyard hose and spray water into your downspout. Pay attention to what happens next.

If the water is flowing smoothly and without obstruction, it indicates that your gutters are working correctly. However, if the water begins to flow or seep out of the downspout, it could mean that your gutters are obstructed or in need of repair. Finally, if the water from your hose is spilling over the gutter, it likely means that your gutters are either full or starting to droop.

The Examination of the Leaf: Go for a short walk around your home and take a look at the gutters from the ground.

When you are doing this, look for leaves or debris that could be accumulating in the gutters, as they are a strong sign that the gutters are not draining the right way.

It’s also important to pay attention to how the gutters look. If they are hanging oddly or look crooked, this indicates they are not able to support the weight of debris and water accumulating in them.

Make sure any installed gutter guards or screens are always clear and undamaged once they are installed. It is possible to quickly clean them out with a hose to make sure that they are working well.

Examination: Next, you will need to examine your downspouts and gutters more closely.

Look out for telltale troubles such as rust, corrosion, or any sort of damage. If there are indications of these things, it may be time for you to replace your gutters.

Look out for any signs of drooping or weak links and ensure that all joints between gutters and downspouts are stable and not hanging low.

If any of these problems are spotted during your routine check of the gutters, it's time to start being proactive, call a trained professional, and make any changes needed.
