LabExpo FAA Flammability Test Chamber is a versatile instrument designed to evaluate the flame propagation characteristics and after-flame duration of materials exposed to small flame sources. The system is engineered to accommodate multiple testing configurations, allowing for assessments in horizontal, vertical, and 45° orientations, as well as a 60° cable test. These four test methods are part of the standard FAA-4C instrument, but the system can also be customized to meet specific customer requirements.
Switching between the horizontal and vertical configurations is quick and efficient, requiring only minimal setup time, making the chamber ideal for fast-paced quality control environments. This ease of use, combined with its precise operation, ensures accurate results with minimal downtime.
The chamber operates on either 230 volts AC 50Hz at 2 amps or 115 volts AC 60Hz at 4 amps, providing flexible electrical compatibility. The system performs optimally in ambient temperatures ranging from 10°C to 35°C. Measuring 752 mm in width, 832 mm in height, and 330 mm in depth, and with a packed weight of 60 kg, this ergonomically designed, bench-mounted apparatus is both compact and robust, making it suitable for a wide range of laboratory setups.
Equipped with a digital timer for automated gas flow control and precise event recording, the LabExpo FAA Flammability Test Chamber delivers reliable and repeatable test results. Additionally, an optional wall-mounted variable speed extraction hood is available to assist in safely evacuating gases and smoke from the chamber during and after testing.
The instrument supports compliance with FAR Part 25 standards, including tests for horizontal, vertical, 45°, and 60° flame resistance. It features an adjustable burner position from the front and automatically starts the test when the burner is positioned correctly. The system is designed to enable automated flame application with selectable flame times and records both ‘after-flame’ and ‘dripping’ events. A precision stainless steel needle valve ensures consistent gas flow, while the burner is equipped with an adjustable gas entry offset to prevent clogging.
The chamber also includes a specimen holder and support systems to conduct all four small-scale tests. For added safety and compliance, the gas flow is automatically shut off at the end of the flame application time, with an option to physically move the burner away from the sample to meet specific test method requirements.
This powerful combination of flexibility, precision, and safety makes the LabExpo FAA Flammability Test Chamber an indispensable tool for laboratories focused on material flammability testing.
